Approach

Humanistic counselling believes that every individual has potential and that painful and difficult life events may have put blocks in the way to prevent them reaching their potential. This can impact on an individual’s self-worth. Tash will gently help to remove the blocks to build up their self-worth and allow an individual to reach their potential. The relationship between client and therapist is therefore key to this and research backs this up. You need to be able to trust your counsellor. Tash will create a safe, non-judgemental confidential space to explore what is going on for you. She offers a free no obligation 30 minute introductory session for you to see if you feel you can build a relationship with her to enable change.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety can be very debilitating in our lives and can prevent us from doing many things. When we feel anxious our bodies start to prepare us for some form of action including shortness of breath, racing heart, sweating, dry mouth... This can lead us to flight, fight or freeze and sometimes, if we are unable to calm our body down, this may result in a panic attacks. Tash can help you to explore what is triggering this level of anxiety and look at some tools to calm the body down, whilst also acknowledging that some level of anxiety is normal and can even be helpful.

Depression or low mood can make it hard for us to get any enjoyment out of life; we feel hopeless, empty and isolated. This affects many aspects of our life such as our relationships, sleep, eating and concentrating. Having counselling with Tash will help you to feel less isolated, allow you to explore what may be causing your depression, although there is not always a reason, she will accept what you may bring and together develop strategies that will mean a shift in how you are feeling.

Self esteem

Self esteem is how we value ourselves. When we have low self esteem we may feel that nothing we do is ever good enough and can often be a factor in feeling anxious or depressed. It is difficult to ignore the negative voice in our head. This voice can often be the biggest bully we have to contend with and be our biggest obstacle in preventing us from flourishing. Tash can help you explore where that voice has come from (it may be a figure from your childhood) and acknowledge the voice and turn down the volume to create a more nurturing internal dialogue that allows you to build up your self esteem.

Young people

Tash has had over ten years experience working with young people in secondary schools, college and university. She has had experience in all kinds of issues they may bring like school stress, relationships, bullying and body image. It has been a tough time for young people; they have had to learn to navigate social media, increasing academic pressures and COVID lockdowns that have impacted on their learning and their mental health, particularly anxiety and suicidal ideation. Having counselling with Tash in a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space can help make a young person make sense of what may be going on for them. Tash also has experience doing intergenerational meditation between young person (under 20) and their caregiver in East Sussex. She works with clients from 13 years old and has an enhanced DBS for working with people under the age of 18.
