Training

Frey is a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 10 years’ experience spanning private practice, charity services and the NHS. Over that time, he has supported a wide variety of people in navigating their difficulties and creating meaningful change in their lives. This background has given him a strong appreciation of neurodivergence, sexuality, gender and cultural difference, which he carries into the therapy room with him.

Frey has worked extensively with people struggling with anxiety, depression and trauma. Holding a Higher Professional Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, he has also trained further in approaches such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and body-oriented psychotherapies. This integrative foundation allows him to offer a flexible, holistic style of therapy, tailored to the needs of each individual.

Approach

Frey offers a calm, grounded presence where you can speak freely and feel understood, even when things are hard to put into words. He listens with care and curiosity, actively exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences with you.

His aim is to help you untangle your difficulties so you can focus on what matters to you and find more meaning and fulfilment in life. This involves developing new ways of responding to your thoughts and feelings so that you don’t feel pulled around by them. It can also involve exploring your values, identity and the different sides which make up who you are.

There is no one-size-fits-all in therapy. Some people like structure while others want to explore more freely. What each of us needs from sessions varies and can shift over time. Frey will work with you to find a pace and approach that suits you.

Relationships

Relationships are central to our wellbeing. While they can offer us a deep sense of security, connection and joy, they can also bring us anguish, anxiety and confusion. Frey can help you explore your experiences with warmth and curiosity so you can make sense of what’s happening rather than feeling caught up in it all.

Alongside focusing on the impacts your relationships are having on you, Frey can help you look at your own relational patterns. The ways we develop to navigate the world and to try to protect ourselves from hurt can be like armour that slowly becomes a cage. You might keep others at a distance by withdrawing, lose touch with yourself by appeasing, or push people away through reacting impulsively.

Frey can help you to recognise the patterns that no longer serve you and begin experimenting with new ways of relating. This process can help you communicate more openly, set healthy boundaries and develop relationships that feel more balanced and fulfilling. In time, you can feel more connected to others and, just as importantly, to yourself.

Loss and Bereavement

Grief can feel like being carried by the tide. Life becomes a struggle to navigate and familiar landmarks disappear, leaving you feeling adrift. It takes time to find steady ground again, but you don’t have to do that alone. Frey offers a space to share the weight of your loss and process it at a pace that feels right for you.

It isn’t only when we lose someone that grief can take hold. It can follow losses of all kinds, like the end of a relationship, or a decline in health. Because grief is so universal and innate, people often feel they should simply be able to move through it, yet it can easily become stuck or tangled.

This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It often means the loss is touching parts of your life or identity that need more space and support to work through. Frey can help you explore your grief, reflect on meaning and purpose and find ways to honour your loss. The aim isn’t to move on or forget, but to find steadiness, compassion and a renewed sense of direction as you continue living your life.

Trauma

Trauma leaves deep marks, shaping how you see yourself, others, and the world. It may follow a single overwhelming event, or build over time from experiences such as childhood neglect, abuse, bullying, or discrimination. Whatever the cause, Frey offers support to restore a sense of safety and choice, and to move forward at a pace that feels manageable.

Frey works with a phased approach to healing from trauma. This is a fluid and flexible process rather than a rigid set of steps. The focus at the start is on creating safety and building resources so you don’t feel overwhelmed. It then moves onto processing the memories and feelings linked to trauma. Healing doesn’t always come from retelling the story though. For some, it’s more about releasing what the body has been holding, using somatic techniques.

Over time, the focus turns towards integration. This means reconnecting with your identity, values, and strengths as well as nurturing your relationships. The aim is not to erase the past but to free you from being defined by it, so you can start to live life on your own terms.
