Training

Oli is a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in the field of Transactional Analysis. Oli has worked for counselling service the UK Counselling Network and addiction charity Change Grow Live. Oli took additional training to work with substance misuse and addiction at Change Grow Live, and also regularly undertakes additional CPD training to enhance his work as a practitioner - including courses in disordered eating, anxiety and depression, bereavement and trauma. Before specialising in Transactional Analysis, Oli also completed counselling skills training which focussed on a humanistic counselling style. He is currently in the latter stages of training towards qualification as a Psychotherapist.

Approach

Oli provides a welcoming space for you to fully express yourself. You have freedom to speak your mind in a safe environment - to share the difficulties you face and explore possibilities for growth.

Oli aims for therapy to be a collaborative process, a joint venture to discover and reflect on who you are, and to identify areas of your life you might like to be different. You might feel something is lacking in your intimate relationships, you could be dealing with anxiety or depression, struggling with work stress or working through a significant life experience. Maybe you don’t really know what is wrong, but have a general sense of unease, feeling of stuckness or dissatisfaction with life. Whatever it is you’re coming for, Oli offers a space where you can explore what is most important to you right now.

Therapy can be daunting. Exploring feelings and experiences which are hard to tolerate can be a strange experience, particularly to begin with. But taking the plunge offers the possibility of crafting a more meaningful, fulfilled life with more options to choose from.

Addiction

When working with addiction, Oli seeks to understand you as a whole, with addiction being just one part of a complex personality. His approach to addiction includes:

Practical support and tools to support you to manage the addiction and regain control. This may include identifying triggers, creating structure and finding new ways of soothing anxiety.

Exploring the motivations for the behaviour, the roots of the issue and what the addiction means to you.

Couples & Relationships

Are you stuck in a pattern of repetitive arguments, without finding resolution? Perhaps you feel distant from your partner, and want to rediscover a lost connection? Do you want to strengthen your bond and improve your communication? Are you grappling with a big change in your lives and relationship?

In relationship counselling, Oli provides a supportive space for you to explore how you relate to each other. You can work collaboratively to face your relationship difficulties together, and find new ways of communicating. Starting the process of counselling can be daunting, but exploring your relationship openly in a safe environment can be the starting point for transformation.

Our relationships can bring us intense joy, but they can also cause overwhelming pain. Oli’s modality, Transactional Analysis, is all about relationships, and how past experiences impact you in your day-to-day life. Oli can support you to explore any relationship difficulties in a safe, supportive space, and consider how you might improve your relationships with others and with yourself. This exploration can take place within individual or couples therapy.

Do you have a picture of who you are and how your life is going to pan out? Does this picture include any self-criticisms, limitations or restrictions? Is there anything that you would rather be different?

Oli can help you to identify how your experiences have influenced the ways you relate to others. He can also help you to recognise any unhelpful patterns and plan how to make different decisions in the future. This process can help you to foster the growth of your most important relationships, while promoting your independence.

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression can often be completely normal reactions to difficult life experiences. They fall on such a broad spectrum of intensity, and Oli looks at the broader picture of your life to see how they fit into your experience and history.

The therapy relationship is the perfect place to unpick intense and sometimes overwhelming feelings - and think about what you might need to help you manage them. With anxiety and depression, Oli feels it is important to be curious about what might be influencing the feelings, both by thinking about your current life situation and lifestyle, and looking at how your history might be impacting your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the present.
