Since qualifying as a counsellor in 2005, Tanya has worked as a counsellor for the following voluntary sector organisations - NSPCC, West London Action for Children & Mankind. She is currently working as a counsellor at the University of Brighton alongside her private practice. Her counselling experiences have been with adults, children, young people, couples/families and those who have experienced trauma.
Tanya sees the counselling space where we can attend to our concerns, hopes, and relationships with ourselves and others. Tanya works within the ethical framework of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and works in a way that is confidential, empathic, sensitive and respectful of all that you bring.
Tanya works within a framework that values the diversity of our experiences, who we are and life in all its contradictions, experiences and challenges. She therefore aims to approach each individual with respect regarding personal circumstances, cultural & social contexts Tanya aims to support you to build on your internal resources/skills and resiliency with regards to the challenges or experiences you wish to explore. In the initial conversations, Tanya will support you to identify a focus for the therapy, which will enable conversations to stay on track.
Tanya has some useful creative tools to use in the work for example sand tray, mindfulness, the use of art or working actively with the imagination. Tanya also utilises CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) that can work well with areas such as anxiety or trauma.
In all her work, Tanya has the aim of being with you in a supportive and respectful way that enables you to move towards your hopes and aims. The work can be challenging too and so she encourages a compassionate approach throughout.
